Plan for next class

everyone,
The purpose of this blog is to realise exactly what it is we are doing before the next class and then test the concept in class. For this all teams need materials.

The concept so far:
Personally I think we should follow the models seen in molecular cell research so basically find a tensegrity structure inherent in a cell construction like the one i uploaded and replicate it. The benefit of this model is that firstly the structure works because it is natural, secondly aesthetically it is very
contemporary and it allows for a curvilinear geometry which i think is where we should be aiming.
Also, everyone should check out ali's entry "Check this out", i have a book giving a basic voronoi cell algorithm that can be used to develop the cell concept further because they are essentially linked cells arranged in a tensile curve.

If everyone agrees then we should source material based on this concept. This covers the structure itself and is a starting point but also for next class we all have to agree on a concept that covers the gfc and environment whether these issues are resolved in the form itself or by way of some media installation etc.

I am really very keen to follow the natural cell concept and i will search for structural and surface images.

Everyone in the structures team needs to source material and also investigate cell structures, the surface team should be sourcing a flexible possibly semi-transparent material to water proof the structure while maintaining its visibility. To the joints team you need to work very closely with the structures team, i also plan to try and source some joint and structure material.

The program team needs to bring in precedent ideas, in fact anyone can do this. This should be anything along the line of our concept anything inspirational etc.

Lastly the lighting solution should be well thought out, all our ideas around lighting technology arequite ambitious so we need to organise something viable that will most likely apply to the gfc and environmental component.

If anyone is opposed to the molecular cell structure concept please say so but at this stage we need to finalise some aspect of the project and this method appears to logically cover the majority of the brief while using tensegrity in a new, innovative and aesthetically interesting way.

Christen.
