Today's Class/Strategy

Firstly, We have a meeting on Tuesday at 2pm then we are meeting Phil at 6pm. For those of you have not been participating then you need to! If you missed today then your behind and the following entry is to update you. If you have not participated then it may be useful to know we are being marked individually as well as a group so its in your best interests to make an effort.

The Concept (Collectively decided):
The structure is going to be extensively lit using LED lights. The intention is for all compression components to incorporate these lights. The structure will basically use the lighting programmed in a pumping motion similar to a heart. As people approach the section they trigger will turn off revealing the inside of the structure, as they move away the area darkened will light up once again, this being an inversion of what would typically be expected. The structure will be entered by the public so when there are people on the inside and the lights turn off they will be face to face with those on the outside. Due to BCA regulation and general consensus we may instead have mirrors panelled across the structure with people's faces on them. We are playing on the social issues of the GFC and the state of world income distribution in general.

Structure/Module/Joints
All groups now should be working within themselves intensively to produce their area of the pavillion. It is important for the module and joints team to stay in contact. We have a number of working tensegrity structures thanks to Keiran Alex and Ali, they now need to develop alternatives and on Tuesday we will decide on the most appropriate solution. We must also be thinking of materials because rubber bands and dowel may not cut it. I will be trying to source something.
The joints team need to source a solution urgently!!! It is proving a challenge. Make sure the joints don't encourage movement and connect to the tensile pieces not the compression elements to maintain a true tensegrity structure.

Program
We need forms asap, i will be working on these also. I suggest you produce a range of iterative models while thinking about the concept, they can be quick or intensively developed. Try to give it some depth. You need to be thinking about the concept so something curvilinear is what comes to mind however any form that can be strongly related to the concept is great. Consider how you enter and where and also if the case may be that we cannot have people inside please have solutions.

Surfaces
The idea is that the lights will form the skin now. You need to help source cost effective lighting solutions as well as materials for the structure. We need something innovative. Think recycled and/or cheap. You should also think about how the concept and the material are related.

Multimedia
Think about what type of lights and how we are going to wire this thing up, dont worry too much about water proofing at this stage. Consider generally where the sensors are to be placed, thinking about what is most effective ie how close people need to get etc. I know we dont have a form yet but make some general calculations anyway it will help.
